The basic training will be in San Luis Obispo California. San Luis Obispo is half way between San Francisco and Los Angeles near the coast. It is one of the best places for helicopter training as the mountains and the sea are within a few miles of the airport. The sea is ideal to train for low level and off-shore flying and the nearby mountains for high altitude work. It is important to integrate different environment aspects into your training.

The Weather

The weather in California is ideally suited for year round training. Only a few days in a year get lost due to bad weather. California has the most balanced climate in the entire United States. The heat is less noticeable than in the Southern states like Arizona as is the high humidity of the Eastern states, which makes the training some times impossible. Also San Luis Obispo does not get the fog like many other places in California.
