We have experience in training pilots from all over the world. If you are not an American citizen or Green Card holder, you will need a Student Visa and a TSA (Transportation Security Administration) clearance to start your training in the United States. Helipro is authorized to issue the M1 Visa for all of our FAA Part 141 approved courses.

Please be aware that you have to complete the Visa application in person at the American Embassy responsible in your home country. The entire process will take about 3 to 6 weeks from the time of the Visa application until you are able to enter the USA. For more information about the Visa process, please refer to this article. For more information about the Student Visa, please visit this website.

If you are already the holder of a "standalone" FAA Pilot License, you don't need a Student Visa or TSA clearance to enter the United States and continue your training (your additional training will be conducted under FAA Part 61). The Visa Waiver Program (VWP) allows citizens of participating countries to travel to the United States without a Visa for stays of maximum 90 days. If you are planning to stay for more than 90 days, you have to apply for an B-2 Visa at the American Embassy in your home country. Please be aware that if you are seeking an Instrument Rating in the United States you have to go through the whole Visa process again and also receive a TSA clearance (Transportation Security Administration) before you can start your training. For more information about the Visa Waiver Program, visit this website.  For more information about the B-2 Visa, please refer to the following website.

If you are the holder of a "based-on" FAA Pilot License, you will need an M-1 Visa and a TSA Clearance to continue your training in the United States. Please be aware that your "based on" FAA License is only valid in combination with a valid license in your home country. That means, if your Type Rating or your Medical Certificate in your home country have expired, your "based on" FAA Pilot License also won't be valid. Please refer to the following document for the foreign license certification process.

Please Contact Us if you have any question about the correct Visa for your training or to discuss the necessary steps for the issuance of a Visa.

Student Visa

We know flight training is a major investment and we often get questions regarding student loans for flight schools. Helipro does not offer financial aid through the school directly, but we have partnered with Pilot Finance Inc. to help our students to fund their training.

Financing

Pilot finance is a financial aid program that provides part-time students (defined as 1-5 lessons per week) with the opportunity to earn their wings with affordable, level monthly payments. The typical approval process takes just 24 hours and can accommodate almost all part-time training. The maximum amount financed is limited only by the applicant's income, debts, and credit record. The maximum repayment term (number of payments) is determined by the number of lessons per week in the student's training schedule.

Whether you are working toward a private license or are advancing into a career in aviation, we hope this partner helps meet your flight school loan needs.

Pilot Finance Inc.

AOPA is announcing the availability of flight training financing through an innovative new program developed by the AOPA Aviation Finance Co.

The funds can be used for everything from starting and finishing primary training to advanced training, such as instrument training or obtaining a commercial certificate. It can even be used for the kind of fun flying that so many AOPA members enjoy, such as earning a tail wheel endorsement or seaplane rating.

Unique features of AOPA flight training financing include the ability to borrow up to $100,000 over a 24- to 84-month period with no money down, no loan minimum, and minimal paperwork. When compared to other flight training loans, these interest rates are very competitive at 7.74 to 12.99 percent.

For more information, visit the AOPA website or call 1-800-62-PLANE (75263).

We have different possibilities for your accommodations. Most of our students tend to live with a host family, who offer rooms in their private homes. Such an accomodation will cost between 700 and 750$ per month. If you prefer, we can also book you a room in a hotel or motel. The prices in hotels and motels might be much more expensive though.

Please Note

If you need help with accommodations or a rental car, please let us know as soon as possible so we can have everything prepared for you.

Student Housing

We have been working together with a local car rental company for many years, and therefore we are able to help you get a car for a very cheap rate. The monthly rate for a rental car (including insurance) is about USD 6‍‍‍00,-.

Your basic training will take place in San Luis Obispo, located roughly midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco on the Central Coast.

Founded in 1772, San Luis Obispo (Spanish for St. Louis, the Bishop of Toulouse) is one of California's oldest communities. The city, locally referred to as SLO lies directly on the famous Highway 1, which stretches from Orange County up to Mendocino County. San Luis Obispo was also a popular stop with the rise of car culture. Due to its popularity as a stop, it was the location of the first motel in history, the Milestone Mo-Tel.

The highway is famous for running along some of the most beautiful coastlines in the USA, including the amazing Big Sur coastline.

Language Training

One of the most important factors of being a pilot is the ability to speak and understand the English language. The communications between pilots and the controllers are very important aspects in flight safety, and it's crucial that one can understand the other. If your English is not very good, we can provide an English teacher for one-to-one or group instruction.
